Founder Story
Retinoblastoma
I was diagnosed at seven weeks old with retinoblastoma in both of my eyes. Retinoblastoma is a rare childhood eye cancer that starts in the retina, which is the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. It most often affects infants and very young children.
In serious cases, treatment may involve removing an eye to stop the cancer and protect the child from the disease spreading. In my case, both of my eyes were affected. That meant my family and the doctors had to go through very difficult decisions very early in my life. My family has been through a lot with me and has helped me every step of the way.
Even though the story began with something very hard, it is also a story about strength, support, adaptation, and moving forward. Blindness changed the tools Cameron uses, but it did not take away the ability to learn, build, help others, or enjoy life.
